Our biggest fundraising event of the year- The Coldest Night of the Year walk- was a HUGE success!

On February 28th, close to 200 community members gathered at the UM-Flint Northbank Center to walk down Saginaw Street in support of our clients who have to face the harsh Michigan winters outdoors. For a few months leading up to the walk, 34 different fundraising teams worked hard to raise money for Shelter of Flint. In the end, over $42,000 was raised, making this our biggest year yet!

Here’s a look at our top 10 fundraising teams:

We have many familiar faces in the top 10! People’s Church of Flint, Walk by Faith, 810 Sports Complex, and Mott Middle College joined us for the first time this year and knocked it out of the park!

Our participants walked down Saginaw Street (a lot of them wore their special CNOY beanies!) for either 1 or 3 miles. The street was flooded with people passionate about providing safe housing, independence, and stability for those who need it most. Afterwards, everybody came in from the cold and warmed up with warm drinks from Starbucks and hearty soup courtesy of Timothy’s Pub. We are grateful for them providing food and drinks to our walkers year after year for this event.

For the second year in a row, Hamady Middle/High School students and teachers formed a fundraising team and held their own walk! Around 200 students walked and they raised $1,188!

Joining them this year was Mott Middle College. Their incredible fundraising led them to add $1,099 to the leaderboard. It’s so exciting to see these kids get involved in their community and learn more about the work we do.

CNOY 2026 was one for the books! Each year we are truly blown away by the community response and involvement in this event. More and more people are learning about Shelter of Flint and the issue of homelessness in our community. It’s incredible to see. I hope you keep up with our work and join us for the Coldest Night of the Year 2027- happening on February 27th!
