Frequently Asked Questions

I’m homeless or about to become homeless. How can I get help?

To enter Shelter of Flint’s emergency shelter program, you

  • Must be able to show you have a need for safe and affordable short-term housing and our staff will help you with this
  • Must be 18 years old
  • Our shelter is open to single parents, single women, and couples with or without children. We are not able to house single men without children or same-sex male couples without children, as there are other shelters available exclusively for men.
  • You must agree to work toward stable housing. Shelter of Flint is a program designed to assist you in locating safe and affordable housing and getting you the support you need to stay housed.

What do I do if I meet these qualifications?

Call (810) 239-5433, any time, to see if there is a bed available or complete and submit the form above.

If admitted, how long can I stay in the emergency shelter?

You will have up to 90 days to find, with the help of our staff, permanent housing.

Do you have rooms for single people without children?

Yes, we do take women without children, but we are unable to accommodate men without children.

I need shelter just for tonight. Can Shelter of Flint help me?

Because our program works to move our clients to permanent housing, we generally do not provide shelter for just one night.

Where else can I get help?

The Housing Assessment and Resource Agency (HARA) is available at Catholic Charities to provide support to connect you to services.  They can be reached at (810) 600-4525.
