Walkers heading out of the Event Center and onto the route.
The 2025 Coldest Night of the Year walk has wrapped up, and we had so much fun! This was Shelter of Flint’s 4th year participating in the nationwide fundraising walk, and it was the biggest one yet! This event allows community members to put themselves in the shoes of those who have to face the harsh Michigan winter outdoors: a powerful reminder of why our work at Shelter of Flint is so vital. Some statistics for 2025:
❄️31 teams
❄️216 walkers
❄️$33,396 raised
So many companies and organizations formed teams this year and all rallied to raise money so that we can continue to provide our clients with safe housing, independence, and stability. Here’s how our top 10 fundraising team leaderboard ended up:
Our #3 fundraising team, Hamady Hawks, had special involvement this year. Hamady Middle/High school students raised money for Shelter of Flint by bringing donations into their homerooms. In all, they raised $1,616! The day before our walk, they held their own Coldest Night of the Year walk on their campus. Over 150 students and staff walked, enjoyed hot chocolate, and got special CNOY beanies or ‘toques’ for their awesome efforts.
On February 22nd, walkers gathered at the Mott Community College Event Center for the big day! Attendees picked up some swag and toques if they raised $150, entered to win raffle prizes, and enjoyed Mr. Tim’s music as they checked in. We had opening remarks from some of our staff and the wonderful Stella Daskalakis from Mid-Michigan NOW led all of the walkers out on the route! Walkers could choose between a 1 or 3 mile trek in the winter chill, and after the walk, they warmed up with delicious soup from Timothy’s Pub and drinks from Starbucks.
Our fantastic media partner, Mid-Michigan NOW, not only had a team of employees join us, but they also earned a spot as our #4 fundraising team this year. They did a wonderful feature on the event, highlighting why they chose to walk with us this year. Be sure to check out the Mid-Michigan NOW feature here.
We are so grateful for everyone who attended the walk and donated to support Shelter of Flint. Save the date for the Coldest Night of the Year 2026 – happening on February 28th! Sign ups will open in December 2025.
